About Massage Therapy

Massage is one of the earliest remedial practices of humankind and is said to be the most natural means of relieving pain.  It is an instinctive impulse to touch or rub that part of the body to obtain relief.  Artifacts have been found in many countries to support the belief that in prehistoric times men and women massaged their muscles and rubbed herbs, oils and various substances on their bodies as healing and protective agents.

Massage, when properly applied by qualified practitioners, is valuable in building and maintaining a healthy, vigorous body.  People in all walks of life are looking for more natural methods of dealing with stress, injuries, pain, arthritis, limited range of motion, and simpler ways of getting more out of life.  Those who are contemplating careers in the practice of massage will find it a dignified and lucrative profession.

Employment opportunities for massage therapists include athletic clubs, private spas, beauty and tanning salons, hotel and resort fitness facilities, and private practices and clinics.  Many massage therapists also work in conjunction with health-care providers such as chiropractors, physical therapists, physicians and other providers of therapeutic treatment.
